29th March Kate and Armani won the Combined Training League at Boswell's Pre Pre Novice, and Ian Tighe was 2nd on Verdi (a definite Italian flavour to this one!).

Dressage Ireland National Winter Championships at Marlton on 10th and 11th April:

Kate on Armani were 11th overall with a combined score of 62.5% at Preliminary

Kate on Snowy were 9th overall with a combined score of 62.62% at Novice
Considering this was a National Competion, they both did pretty well against some very hot (and expensive) competiton!

Bill O’Sullivan, Patrick Wall and I headed to Co. Galway for the Annual National Hunter trials 2010.

We all entered both Pair and Individual rounds at this years HTs. As the only AP rider from Brooke Lodge travelling, I teamed up with Ashwood RC member Susan Black. I was first up for AP pairs and I nervously headed out into the sunshine with my new-best-friend Susan. I left feeling ill and I came back feeling fantastic – we had a clear round and I managed to enjoy it too - and came 10th.

I was off again for the AP Individual Championship and I had another clear round. I was massively delighted with myself and Grey Mountain (Jenny).

Next up for Brooke Lodge was Bill O’Sullivan and Pat Wall in the AI Pairs. They absolutely flew around and gave a great spectacle as they thundered across the country. With one stop and hitting the optimum time to the second, they placed 7th overall. Well done lads!

For the AI Individual Championships Bill was quickly up and off again and horsed-on, he had a smashing clear round and came in about 45 seconds too fast on a tricky course - ‘Royal Flying Doc’ lived up to his name.

Following quickly was Pat who took off like a bullet with ‘Noname’, and with just 3 seconds off the optimum time and a clear round, he finally got a lovely big glossy well-deserved rosette for Brooke Lodge when he placed 4th!! Well done Pat!!

Then we all collapsed in a puddle and replayed the course over and over and considered Badmington... (one can dream). Flowerhill had provided again a perfect day - only 364 days til next year.

Armani and Kate won the pre pre novice Combined Training league held in Boswells before Christmas (with a pic in the Irish Field on either 26th Dec or 2nd Jan!).

In the current Boswells Combined Training League, the pair were placed 6th on 23rd Jan and 2nd on 13th Feb. Also they have done Dressage Ireland at Boswells, Preliminary, placed 3rd on 20th Feb and 1st with 70% last Saturday 6th March! What a star that pony is!!!

Snowy is back out competing again, hooray, and won the Novice class in Dressage Ireland at Marlton Stud on 30th Jan; he was so happy to be out showing off that he went fab, gaining a score of 68.85%! The pair were then 2nd (Aurelia Ciblis was first, well done) at Dressage Ireland in Boswell on 6th feb and 5th at Marlton on 27th Feb.

Both horses have now qualified for the Dressage Ireland Winter Final with scores over 65% on every outing (qualifying score is 62%).

Well done Kate and the two boys Armani and Snowy!

Celia West and Holly (Regal Ivy) won the Leinster Trec Winter League on Saturday. The league was held over five weeks at Athlone, Annaharvey (2) and Dragonhold (2), and involved two of the three phases of Trec, the Control of Paces (COP) and the Obstacles (PTV).

Celie tied on points with Trish Buckley (from Calliaghstown) on Dessie, but were placed first because she had a higher score at the final.

This League will be run for five weeks culminating in a Grand Final on Sunday 13th December.

Congratulations to Mary Flynn on Roscommon who came 3rd in the Advanced Primary Combined Training Event. This was a great result especially as the ground was very muddy and deep and just got worse as the day went on.

In the Dressage Competition the team (Aurelia, Kim, Andrea and Sheila) and the individuals (Ian, Fiona, Fran) had very good scores but unfortunately were not placed in what was a highly competitive field. All results will be up on the AIRC website (www.airc.ie) on Tuesday 25th August

Congratulations to Laoighse De Burca who came 7th in the Intermediate class at the SOUTH LEINSTER REGION, AIRC, EH CONSTRUCTION Graded Showjumping League 2009.

BELAIR HUNTER TRAILS Results- Sunday 29th March 2009


A huge entry made this a very exciting day for all involved and the rain
stayed away. As usual the course was very inviting and the competition was very well run by BelAir.


Overall Brooke Lodge had great results:


In the Open section, Bill O'Sullivan on Royal Flying Doc came 1st in the pairs with Shauna Waters of Carrickmines and he also came 6th in the singles.

In the Intermediate section, Kathryn Frost on Silver Snipe and Amy Connolly on Willow Cool Cat came 1st in the pairs and Kathryn again claimed the coveted 1st placing in the singles. Sarah Helme competed in her first intermediate course and was pleased with Oscars performance.

Foxborough Hunter Trials - Easter Monday

Despite the rain forecast it was an excellent turnout. Weather conditions started out fine but the rain came just as the green horse and intermediates started, it gradually got heavier as the afternoon wore on.


The course seemed to run favourably with plenty of clear rounds leaving it a bit of a lottery on the optimum time front. It was a tricky course to remember with lots of sharp turns!


Brooke Lodge members had a great day - Kate O'Rourke competed in the Advanced Primary Singles. Emily Cleary, Niamh Harding and Sarah Helme competed in the Intermediate Singles. Emily & Alison Cleary competed in the Intermediate pairs and Sarah Helme joined up with Maire Cullen of Hollybrook RC to come 2nd in the Intermediate pairs. Sarah was thrilled with Oscar's performance as she had planned on following Maire but ended up taking the lead after the 3rd fence!!

Connolly\'s Red Mills National Hunter Trials Congratulations to Patrick Wall

Patrick Wall and Sara Brophy flew the flag for Brooke Lodge Riding Club at the Connolly\'s Red Mills National Hunter Trials in Flowerhill Equestrian Centre, Co Galway on the 5th April 2009. There were over 400 competitors on the day!

Unfortunately Sarah was eliminated in the Advanced Primary Championships but was happy with No name\'s performance.

Patrick riding The Fighter Pilot came 6th in the Advanced Intermediate National Hunter Trial Championship out of a field of 50 and over a trying course that consisted of up to 21 obstacles.
